THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE IN KRAKOW

Centre for Chinese Language and Culture „The Confucius Institute in Krakow” was established on the initiative of Professor Andrzej Kapiszewski in 2006, as the first such an institution in Poland. The idea came into being thanks to cooperation between the 600 years old Jagiellonian University and the Beijing University of Foreign languages. The Secretary of State of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Ms Chen Zhili, honoured the opening ceremony with her presence.

The Institute was established in the former capital of Poland, the centre of scientific, cultural and artistic life. Every year the city is visited by 7 million of tourists, from Poland and from all over the world.

COURSES OF THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE IN KRAKOW

Almost 130 students learn Mandarin in the Centre of Chinese Language and Culture of Jagiellonian University in the school year 2010/2011. Most of them are beginners but there is also a group of old-timers who study Chinese for 7th semester. Apart from the courses taking place in the seat of the Institute there are also classes in public schools in Krakow. The Chinese language classes are accompanied by a next edition of the calligraphy classes, in this year taught by a calligraphist Wu Di. In July 2010 the first examination session of the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi took place in Krakow. The next one will be held in May 2011. To help all the students who would like to take part in the exam, an intensive preparatory course will start in February 2011, right after the winter holidays.
